XLIS Upcoming Events in April


Dear Parents,

Spring is in the air and the weather is finally beginning to warm up. Flowers are beginning to bloom and the birds sing in the dawning of a new day every morning. Here at XLIS we have a plethora of different activities and events taking place during the month of April. These are split between primary school (ECE and PYP), secondary school (MYP and DP) and whole school events. Science Week

Science Week 

XLIS students will be celebrating Science Week for the first time this year. During this week classes throughout the school will be inquiring into the various science disciplines. Students from the secondary school will be collaborating with students from the primary school to create experiments and develop a love of science together. All secondary classes will be looking at their subjects through the lens of science with the support of the Diploma Programme Science students and teachers.

ACS WASC Initial Visit

ACS WASC Initial Visit

The Accrediting Commission for Schools Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC) will come to XLIS for our initial visit in April. This organization assures the community that the organization has clearly defined objectives appropriate to education. Their team will be providing feedback to the leadership and staff of XLIS on how the school can continue to develop. On the morning of April 17th students will take regular class. During the afternoon, all staff will participate in training so there will be no classes.We will prepare sandwiches, milk, fruit and wet paper towels for students to carry.

2019 Second Liangjiatan International Education Forum 

The forum’s goal is to set the quality of international teaching and the awareness of educational service in domestic and overseas first-tier cities as the goal. To comprehensively improve the level of international education in Xi’an and promote the construction and development of Xi’an as an international metropolis, whilst strengthening the communication platform for education among local primary and secondary school educators, parents and students. Finally the conference hopes to enhance understanding of international education and promote the development of Xi’an international schools.

XLIS Sports Day

XLIS Sports Day 

We will have another first here at XLIS. Sports Day for the whole school for the first time at our new campus. We have planned a wonderful day of events for your children. There will be dynasty challenges, go-karts, boat races, giant obstacle courses, many relay races, arcade games, track and field events and more. We hope to send your child home happy and exhausted because of the wonderful experiences we have planned. We are focusing on the school learner outcomes of explorers and resilience. Giving students the chance to explore new challenges and encouraging them not to give up, but be resilient. It will be a day in which your children will get wet because of some of the activities so prepare them appropriately.


Primary School April Events

MYP5 PSAT Testing 

This year, to support our students with their learning and for them to gain valuable test-taking experience, we will be administering PSAT tests for all MYP5 students. The results of these tests will provide information for students and families and will be another data point that will inform the school about student readiness for the Diploma Programme in the coming year.

DP Visual Arts Graduation Show

DP Visual Arts Graduation Show 

Our first DP Visual Arts Cohort will be displaying the wonderful artwork they have produced over the course of two years hard work. Our talented students will take you on a journey of their art through this powerful week-long exhibition. There will be a gala opening with music ensemble and light refreshments on Tuesday, April 2nd from 4:30-6:00 pm. The event will be held in the gallery spaces on floor two and three, outside the theatre. Please come and celebrate the arts with us.

Mr. Michael Skillern Solo Percussion Recital

Blue Dragon Theatre 

Mr. Michael Skillern Solo Percussion Recital - 

Mr. Skillern, our Secondary Music Teacher will be delivering a gripping performance. This will include a world premier vibraphone solo (original music composed by Chace Williams). Mr. Skillern will play a wide variety of musical selections spanning a period of 400 years.

Gratitude Assembly and Dynasty Event Afternoon 

The Student Council will run a special assembly to express thanks to people in the XLIS community for all of their support. This 30-minute assembly will be followed by a Dynasty House event. The eight Dynasty Houses will compete in ‘Minute-To-Win-It’ Competitions created by the students from each house. House points will be awarded to the team that completes the most tasks in a minute.
